CREATE: PRETTY WOOD BURNED SIGNS

Thursday, September 20, 2012

On a little shopping trip to Michael's the other day I came across these nifty wood rounds and then spotted a wood burning kit. Well, of course I came home with them and knew right away that I wanted to create some handmade art for my soon to be wall collage. The results were better than I imagined and now I am going to share this easy DIY with y'all.

What you need: wooden round (I used this brand), wood burning kit, pencil, paper, printer. All of my supplies were bought at Michael's. Make sure to check for coupons before you go!

One: create your lettering/design on your computer and print it out once you are happy with it. It may take a few tries to get the sizing right for your round. Flip your printed design over and trace it with a pencil. Make sure to fill it in as good as possible.

Two: once you have completing the pencil tracing flip it back over and place it on your round, making sure to center it properly. While holding the paper in place go back over the lettering with a pencil, pressing down so the lettering will transfer to your wood round. Remove the paper to reveal the outline of your printed design.

Three: take your heated wood burning tool and begin going over your design The slower you go the darker the wood will burn. Just take your time and have fun!

That's it, ALL DONE and look how pretty they look! You can play around with this as much as you want. I am going to attach a picture hanging bracket on the back of mine so that they can make a permanent place in my home. I absolutely LOVE the way they turned out! I would love to see yours if you end up trying it out. xo-ginny
